    Position Summary

    The Development Manager for Institutional Giving will be part of a four-person department that raises close to $3 million annually in support of Audubon New York, a leading and effective conservation organization in New York, as well as one of the largest state programs of the National Audubon Society. In particular, this role will manage and build ANY's grants program for foundation, corporate and government grants and expand efforts to include a focus on funding for priority projects. The primary responsibility will be expand a robust foundation portfolio by shepherding the organization through the proposal process including: prospecting, working with staff on program identification and needs, connecting with and maintaining relationships with grant making officers, drafting and editing all major foundation (including family foundations), corporate, and government grant proposals and reports. Reporting to the Executive Director, s/he will also help develop letter proposals and donor stewardship materials for individual and major gift prospects.

    Essential Functions

    • Manage and maintain Audubon New York’s institutional giving portfolio including corporate, foundational, and government grants.
    • Serve as the lead on all major institutional grant submissions with an emphasis on securing support for Audubon New York programs.
    • Lead conversations around funding opportunities for existing and new programs working collaboratively with ANY program directors and key members of the NAS Development team to formulate strategies for program identification and submission (e.g. monthly strategy calls, creating and managing timelines and follow-up).
    • Play a collaborative role, alongside program staff, to influence and assist with program development.
    • Conduct program evaluation and program metrics for fundraising purposes; ensure compliance with the rules and regulations administered by the grantor; oversee special audits conducted by grantor.
    • Continuously conduct research and pursue new opportunities for corporate and foundation support working towards portfolio expansion goals as outlined in Audubon New York’s Strategic Plan (corporate giving up to $500,000, foundational support to $1.5 million, and government grants to $500,000 by Fiscal Year 2020).
    • Adapt grants and other written material for use in appeals, proposal letters, and stewardship materials for individuals and major gift prospects.
    • Manage, through ongoing stewardship and cultivation, portfolio of donors to include corporate, foundation, government grant makers, and a select pool of individual prospects (e.g. family foundations).
    • Assist in the budget development process and perform budget analysis duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ professional experience in fundraising, grant writing or grants management required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
    • Demonstrated analytical and persuasive writing skills as well as superior editing skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a clear manner to a diverse audience.
    • Self-motivated and able to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in an effective and efficient manner.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and demonstrated expertise with donor enterprise systems. Knowledge of Salesforce a strong plus.
    • Adept at interpreting complex grant funding requirements, submissions, and budget projections; comfortable with reviewing the work of others to ensure conformance to standards; effective at communicating with a broad spectrum of staff, board members and partners, both in person and in writing.
    • Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial, team-oriented, and mission driven environment that places a strong value on collaboration.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, to include comfort engaging and partnering with a variety of stakeholder groups, such as board members, program directors and other senior leaders.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license; some travel throughout the state will be required.
