    Position Summary

    The Development Manager provides leadership to the Audubon Texas annual giving program and is responsible for the overall design and successful implementation of comprehensive and coordinated annual giving initiatives, including personal solicitations for annual and multi-year commitments, events, direct mail and email. The events function includes the securing of underwriting, as well as participating in the planning and execution of the events (e.g., audiovisual equipment rentals, venue selection, room set-up, floral arrangements, run of show). 

     

    Reporting to the Vice President. Of Development with a strong dotted line in reporting to the Texas State Executive Director and Vice President, the Development Manager is an important member of the Texas Development team who will work closely across this state program and with other essential Development staff throughout the National Audubon Society and the state of Texas. This role is based in Austin, TX.

    Essential Functions

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual giving program to achieve revenue goals and growth at all levels of annual giving, including: 
      • Developing an annual giving strategy and project plan that includes proposed annual budget recommendation, monitoring, and reporting plans, key benchmarks and dates; 
      • Secure underwriting for events;
      • Participate in planning and logistics for all fundraising events;
      • Planning, implementing, and managing a comprehensive direct mail program and on-line giving strategy that includes a calendar outlining the proposed activity, expected return on investment and reporting expectations;
      • Developing appropriate communications and miscellaneous donor materials (brochures, promotional materials, appeals and online content) in alignment with conservation strategies
      • Identifying donor segmentation strategies, if warranted;
      • Donor/prospect acquisition; and
      • Drafting acknowledgement letters and ensuring all donor pledges and payments are appropriately tracked.
    • Along with the Executive Director, Vice President of Development, Major Gift Officer and Grants Department build out the donor pipeline by identifying and cultivating annual giving prospects and existing donors. Create an effective gift stewardship program to identify new donors and increase existing giving levels;
    • Research individuals, foundations, and organizations important to the annual giving program; compile data and draft/update briefings and reports. Responsible for managing all correspondence and reporting to prospects and donors into the development database;
    • Assist with securing pledges from major donors, including follow-up with Board and other major donors.
    • Maintain a personal portfolio of donors and prospects; schedule face-to-face meetings to solicit donors and prospects. 
    • Travel throughout Texas ~20-30% to meet with existing and potential donors, soliciting donations, and securing gifts; and
    • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development and Executive Director of Texas.

     

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree, as well as 3-4 years’ experience running a successful annual giving program, cultivating and closing individual gifts, developing donor strategies and stewarding donors. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
    • Understanding of, and experience with, moves management and effective fundraising pipeline development.
    • Stellar project management skills required – ability to take a project from concept to completion in a determined period of time within a determined budget.  Experience using project management software (e.g., Asana) is a plus.
    • Experience with reporting from donor/event databases, as well as comfort with research tools and developing donor profiles. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook) to implement, develop, and maintain computer-based business operations
    • A self-starter, one who is able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects simultaneously, can prioritize workload, and ensure deadlines are met. Also a team player who works collaboratively with others; has strong judgment and decision making skills.  
    • A flexible approach to work, with the willingness to work some evenings and weekends and travel for events when necessary.
    • Ability to travel throughout Texas ~20%-30% of time as needed.
    • Written and oral communication skills, a must.
    • Strong interpersonal skills; understanding of person-to-person relationships and ability to convincingly articulate needs and goals that motivate potential donors to make gifts and existing donors to make bigger gifts. Ability to interact with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, such as Board members other VIPs and colleagues at all levels of the organization also important.
