    Position Summary

    The National Audubon Society is seeking a full-time, highly-motivated and hands-on Human Resources Generalist who has a solid foundation in all functional aspects of Human Resources.  The position is located in the New York office and reports directly to the VP, Human Resources.  The HR Generalist will provide critical HR support to the leadership team and employees throughout the Audubon network. 

    Essential Functions

    • Work directly with the VP, Human Resources to project manage key HR initiatives as well as provide some administrative support.
    • Conduct employee exit interviews, complete appropriate forms and provide feedback to supervisors.
    • Support performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within organization.
    • Participate in development of HR objectives and systems, including metrics, queries, and standard reports.
    • Conduct research to determine the effectiveness of HR programs and policies. 
    • Recommend improvement to policies, programs, and procedures to improve human resources operations.
    • Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of employee handbook and organizational charts.
    • Keep abreast of current EEO guidelines, human resources legislation and regulations, as well as changes in the human resources field.
    • Provide back-up assistance in leading new employee orientation sessions in order to introduce new staff to Audubon’s culture, operations, and other important organizational aspects.
    • Support year-end merit increase and bonus process, collecting data and following up with managers as needed.
    • Design, create and update the internal HR Intranet web page, to include org charts, policies, HR information, employee resources, etc.
    • Serve as back-up to recruiting coordinator as needed.
    • Assist with other HR-related tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a human resources generalist role with demonstrated ability to support a team of generalists.
    • Firm understanding of human resources policies and procedures.
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
    • Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible in an evolving environment.
    • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, project management skills.
    • Ability to take initiative, make decisions, multitask, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
    • Self-starter with high energy; ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Good judgment to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
    • Knowledge of Federal, state and local laws and regulations.
