Position Summary

Reporting to the Engagement Management and working closely with the program leads, the Communications Seasonal is responsible for helping with Audubon South Carolina’s social media communications, including developing online and social media content for the upcoming year for policy and advocacy, conservation programs, community science, major activities and holidays, and Beidler Forest and Silver Bluff centers and sanctuary. They will also support creating an internal guide for effective and consistent social media engagement and supporting the development of a content calendar for fiscal year 2022. In partnership with the Engagement Manager, they will help provide training to Audubon South Carolina staff on supporting successful social media engagement to elevate conservation work and programs. Additionally, they will ensure all Audubon South Carolina social media channels are following key stakeholders with particular attention paid to policy decision makers. Working with the Policy Director, they will ensure climate solutions and policy advocacy are integrated into the social media content.

Essential Functions

  • Assist with writing, editing, and designing social media content for fiscal year 2022 for policy and advocacy, conservation programs, community science, major activities, and Beidler Forest and Silver Bluff centers and sanctuary.
  • Develop evergreen social media content for priority bird species, native plants, and major holidays.
  • Ensure Audubon South Carolina social media channels are following key policy decision makers and spotlighting climate and policy advocacy throughout the year.
  • Support developing a tutorial for Audubon South Carolina staff on effectively supporting social media content development.
  • Support developing a content calendar for fiscal year 2022.
  • Creating a database of top photos of priority birds for all conservation work to be used by Audubon South Carolina staff for presentations, events, written materials, and other communications needs.
  • Engage in other communications-related activities as assigned by the Engagement Manager and/or Office Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Working toward or completed a college degree or relevant lived experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram), as well as experience with Microsoft Office applications. Some experience designing for print (InDesign) a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills with a professional, friendly manner.
  • Experience working/teaching with children and adults in an active setting is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and commitment to the conservation of birds, other wildlife and habitats.
  • Excellent work ethic, a team-focused attitude, and the ability to work well independently and well with others, including staff, visitors, and volunteers.
