Position Summary

This Farm Assistant will report to the Farmer and will support the Aullwood Farm in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities including animal care, grounds and facilities care, and farm crop production. Weekend and evening hours required.

Essential Functions

  • Feed and water farm animals (horses, cows, pigs, chickens, etc).
  • Turn out and bring in animals.
  • Clean and bed animal stalls daily.
  • Keep facility neat and clean at all times.
  • Use tractor with attachments to perform various field and grounds maintenance.
  • Perform landscaping duties such as weed removal, planting, mowing, shoveling walks and driveways, bush hogging fields, etc.
  • Assist in the removal of fallen trees.
  • Conduct routine trail maintenance.
  • Cut, ted, rake and bale hay, turn compost, move mulch.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must have 2+ years previous experience with farm animals and farm equipment, including independently attaching and using bush hog, hay bine, hay wagons, mowers, etc. Must be comfortable independently moving animals from stall to stall and in and out to pasture, including cows, horses, pigs, sheep, etc.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of vehicles and resources, including but not limited to tractors, zero-turn mowers, chainsaw, automated-power equipment, hand tools, phones, copy machines, computers, and other related equipment.
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license.
  • Must have great attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, precautions and occupational hazards associated with farm animal and farm machinery work and the ability to rectify quickly.
  • Must be a team player and interact professionally with co-workers and other constituencies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to transport, lift and push up to 80 lbs regularly and work outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to navigate uneven ground, stand, bend, lift, and turn while working with or without accommodation.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when needed, including weekends and evenings.
