Position Summary

The National Audubon Society is seeking a full-time, highly-motivated and hands-on Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) with a solid foundation in all functional aspects of Human Resources. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the position can be located in Audubon’s New York, California or Washington, DC office.
 
The HRBP will provide critical HR support to leadership and employees throughout a dedicated portfolio of State offices, as well department heads in NY and DC. Acting as a trusted partner, the HRBP will engage closely with employees on matters related to workforce planning, training, development, and day to day work/life balance issues.

Essential Functions

  • Create and own partnerships with senior leaders, managers and staff to fully serve the needs of the Audubon network.
  • Collaborate with managers and talent acquisition team on organizational development and workforce planning, including reviewing job descriptions for new hires and assessing internal opportunities for existing employees.
  • Work across the HR team to create a bridge between managers and staff members as needed.
  • In partnership with the Senior Director, Employee Relations, provide assistance to staff and managers with issues regarding employee relations, counseling employees concerning work-related issues, as well as interpreting and applying company policies, procedures, practices, benefits, salary changes, etc.
  • Support performance development program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.
  • Conduct research to determine the effectiveness of HR programs and policies, recommending improvement to policies, programs, and procedures to improve human resources operations.
  • Keep abreast of current EEO guidelines, human resources legislation and regulations, as well as changes in the human resources field specific to States covered in the portfolio.
  • Regularly participate in and review the career and salary structure to ensure it is equitable and a fit for Audubon’s needs.
  • Assist with other HR-related projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a human resources generalist role, with demonstrated experience closely engaging managers and staff on a regular basis.
  • If in California: Comprehensive understanding of California state human resources policies and procedures.
  • Strong orientation to issues surrounding equity, diversity, and inclusion in relation to all HR practices, procedures, and protocols.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the role EDI initiatives plays in the formation of HR policies and procedures.
  • Positive attitude and ability to remain flexible in an evolving environment.
  • Excellent organizational (including project management), interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Ability to take initiative, make decisions, multitask, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • Enthusiasm for and willingness to jump into projects as needed.

COVID Policy

Beginning September 15, 2021: Audubon requires all staff either to provide proof of being fully vaccinated or, if they cannot provide such proof for any reason, to wear a mask while working indoors, including in all Audubon facilities and offsite, and while working outdoors in situations where they cannot maintain social distancing. In addition, at this time and until CDC recommendations change, all staff in counties the CDC identifies as having “substantial” and “high” COVID transmission ratesmust wear masks indoors (unless alone in a closed office) and outdoors in situations where they cannot maintain social distancing regardless of vaccination status.
