Now in its second century, Audubon is dedicated to protecting birds and other wildlife and the habitat that supports them. And as part of BirdLife International, Audubon will join people in over 100 in-country organizations all working to protect a network of Important Bird Areas around the world, leveraging the impact of actions they take at a local level. The Research Associate will work closely with the State Director of Research at the Everglades Science Center. Their primary responsibilities will be a combination of fieldwork and office projects. This is a full-time position where the Research Associate will engage in monitoring and banding of spoonbills, conduct flight surveys of roseate spoonbill colonies, provide support for research including the construction of devices used in monitoring projects such as nest cameras, collection and entering of biological data from Florida Bay, and the Everglades and maintaining and analyze database information. Working with Research Director to complete reports as required. Wading bird nesting colonies are monitored at scheduled times from as early as October to as late as June.
Applicants will be asked to assist with other projects associated with spoonbill ecology in Florida Bay. Field data will be collected from, powerboats, rowboats, canoes, and kayaks.
