Position Summary

The John James Audubon Center (Center) wishes to hire a part-time Center Assistant to support visitor services at the site and will work with the Visitor Services Manager as their assistant. This position will involve weekend work.

Essential Functions

  • Provide staffing support at the front desk of the museum, welcoming guests, selling tickets and memberships, orienting guests and answering questions.
  • Process gift shop sales using Lightspeed sales and inventory system.
  • Answer phones and respond to phone inquiries.
  • Open and close the museum
  • Open and close registers.
  • Participate in needed job trainings.
  • Assist in supervising volunteers assigned to support front desk.
  • Small administrative tasks as needed.
  • Ability to work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm throughout the year as needed. (Likely schedule will involve alternating weekend work except during special on-site weekend events. Schedules will be planned in advance and the Center Assistant will work with Center’s Volunteer, Engagement and Retail Manager to determine staffing needs for particular days.)

Qualifications and Experience

  • Office administrative, retail, and customer service experience welcome.
  • Personable and friendly with a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to multi-task, particularly on days when the Center is crowded.
  • Team oriented.

COVID Policy

All staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 no later than January 31, 2022, unless they are approved by Human Resources for a qualified exemption. Those unvaccinated after January 31st will be required to follow a weekly testing protocol.


All unvaccinated staff are required to wear masks or other approved facial coverings while working indoors at all times or outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained. Further, effective December 13th, any unvaccinated staff person entering an Audubon building must submit a negative Covid-19 test that has been taken within 72 hours. 


This policy is effective through February 27th and may be changed due to changes in the law and/or changes to Audubon policies such as the Return to Work/Hybrid Work policy.


All new hires must be fully vaccinated prior to their start of employment unless they are pre-qualified by HR for exemption.
