Position Summary

Under the guidance of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant is responsible for helping maintain the Blair Audubon Visitor Center and the surrounding grounds and buildings at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. They will be primarily focused on the cleaning and light maintenance of the Blair Audubon Visitor Center, including the restrooms and office buildings scattered throughout the campus. There will be light duty maintenance associated with keeping these buildings in good condition such as using high ladders to clean/change light bulbs and fans, lubricating/fastening hardware, and cleaning windows.


This is a full-time, 40-hour position, with a Wednesday through Sunday schedule.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain facilities including cleaning floors, sinks, toilets, mirrors, kitchen areas, offices, and restocking paper in all facilities throughout the campus.
  • Empty trash and recycling in all buildings and in parking lot.
  • Maintain a stocked and organized cleaning supply room.
  • Provide support for special events and functions including setting up meeting rooms and other spaces when requested.
  • Conduct deep cleaning of dorms and overnight spaces as needed.
  • Light maintenance tasks such as using a drill to hang signs, scratch repair, inspections of doors and appliances.
  • Greet visitors, volunteers, and event guests with a positive, welcoming attitude.
  • Other duties as requested.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with building and facilities maintenance, preferably at a large facility.           
  • Demonstrated experience with custodial duties.
  • Demonstrate pride and ownership in their work.
  • Must possess good judgment and be able to work independently.
  • Must be self-motivated, energetic, team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic maintenance, repair, and safety issues essential.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work off hours, support Center and Sanctuary needs.
  • Highly ethical, honest, and reliable.
