Position Summary

The Retail Sales Manager at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary will be responsible for achieving the financial and educational goals of the and Blair Audubon Visitor Center's nature store, admissions, food service operations/café, exhibits and special initiatives. The Sales Manager will create and review financial reports; administer an annual budget; order merchandise; recruit, train, schedule and supervise sales staff; oversee daily store, admission, and food service operations; and manage exhibits and special initiatives.

The Retail Sales Manager will also bring forward and implement creative and innovative ideas to attract and engage partners, the local community and visitors from around the world. They will function as an exemplary model for salesmanship and customer/visitor/volunteer interactions.

Essential Functions

• Oversee the day-to-day management, operations and planning for of the Center’s

  store, admissions and food service ensuring smooth and effective operations.
• In collaboration with Associate Director and other Corkscrew staff, develop and implement      strategies aimed at attracting and engaging visitors, expanding store traffic, and

  enhancing profitability.
• Develop promotions and/or marketing strategies to generate increased sales.
• Prepare annual budget for the Center’s store, admissions and café, to include sales

  and expense budget, inventory, open-to-buy, monthly income statements and cash flow          statements.
• Negotiate contracts with vendors for best terms including cost price, delivery schedule,          payment terms and returns; maintain cost of goods percentage by category as budgeted.
• Utilize automated inventory system to control inventory levels and place timely purchase         orders for store and café. Ensure quantities ordered are appropriate.
• Manage and order perishable food and beverage items for the café.
• Supervise semi-annual or other regularly scheduled inventories and audits.
• Select appropriate merchandise based on the mission of the National Audubon Society

  and the themes selected by Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary management.
• Install merchandise displays to further extend the exhibitions of Corkscrew

  Swamp Sanctuary; and maintain displays that reflect state of the art

  merchandising techniques.
• Devise and implement new and innovative exhibits, programs and initiatives to draw

  in visitors.
• Develop promotional and educational information to attach to or correspond with products.
• Develop and update store training program and manual.
• Manage and provide leadership to store/café staff, interns, and seasonal staff. Coach 

   and develop staff to their full potential.
• Recruit, train and schedule Blair Audubon Visitor Center staff.
• Maintain accurate cash control.
• Respond to complaints and other customer comments in a professional manner.
• Manage online store and mail orders.
• Manage automated inventory and point of sale system and keep abreast of

   new programming, reporting and other pertinent information that will ensure effective 

   use of merchandise control systems.
• Extract, analyze and utilize sales and data to ensure store profitability.
• Stay abreast of new and maintain current information on market trends and

  product availability.
• Manage admission sales and reporting through online software, e.g. Ticketure
• Liaise with a network of partners and the local community to generate new programs 

  and revenue sources.
• Collaborate with colleagues on recruitment, training, events, programs, marketing and

   other initiatives.
• Seek opportunities to expand sales potential in a number of areas and explore

   online services.
• Partner with Audubon staff to incorporate equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging

   into our programming.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• High School diploma or equivalent requirement, Associate’s degree preferred.

   An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
• 5+ years' experience in retail or sales operations with three of those years

   in supervisory/management capacity.
• Thorough knowledge of retail/sales management and all aspects of the daily store functions.
• Thorough knowledge of open-to-buy, turns, appropriate inventory levels,

   income statements, profit and loss statements and cash flow statements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of inventory and stockroom controls and procedures.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills; including comfort interacting with

   the public; strong Interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach to work a must.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills and the ability

  to maintain a team-focused attitude in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to create effective working

   relationships  with employees, colleagues, the public and vendors.
• Must possess excellent judgment, with the ability to be trusted with sensitive

   financial information and customer payments.
• Must model exemplary salesmanship techniques.
• A self-starter, one who is highly organized, creative, innovative and possesses

   a keen attention to detail.
• Skilled in working with computer software and hardware, including iPads,

   Microsoft Office, Outlook, point of sale and other relevant software.
• Must have the ability to obtain Food Manager Certification and take necessary training,

   upon hiring.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
