The Trinity River Audubon Center (TRAC) is an environmental education center in Dallas, Texas. Our 120-acre sanctuary is located in the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest. It includes five miles of walking trails winding through forest, prairie, and wetland habitats, providing an outstanding learning opportunity in a diverse, beautiful setting.

The Educator reports directly to the Program Manager and provides environmental education to school-aged children, the public, and various community organizations. Environmental Education programs are both on-site and off-site. Along with leading programs, the Educator assists with habitat management, visitor services, social media, and marketing.

Compensation:

$17-$19 / hour

• Research, plan, and deliver interactive and engaging environmental education and nature interpretation programs at the Center for visitors of all ages.
• Create a meaningful experience for program participants while teaching appreciation and respect for the natural environment.
• Serve as a representative and environmental steward to the community through outreach programs such as STEM nights at local schools, events with local partners, and library programs.
• Manage front desk operations when needed, such as opening and closing procedures, visitor check-in, gift shop sales, answering phone calls, and being a front-line representative.
• Interact with the public to provide information about Audubon and Audubon’s mission, answer specific questions from visitors, and be a positive ambassador of Audubon.
• Create flyers and marketing materials for programs and special events.
• Assists with social media presence and special events.
• Perform trail maintenance and habitat management practices as needed.
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in education, recreation, environmental studies/science, natural history, geography, or other related fields. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
• At least one year working in environmental education.
• Skills teaching in formal and informal settings to a variety of audiences.
• Ability to create, deliver, and evaluate environmental education programs and activities.
• Excellent public speaking, interpersonal, and group management skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
• CPR & First Aid certification or the ability to become certified before employment.
• Must be able to stand and traverse different types of terrain for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs. with or without accommodation.
• Ability to work and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Background in North Texas natural history is desirable.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Comfortable working weekends and occasional evenings
• Valid driver’s license required.
